EMD Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany, announced that John Sweeney, head of the life science business field at EMD Millipore has been appointed head of the company’s bioscience business unit. In this capacity, he will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the bioscience business unit, as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the business fields encompassed within the Unit, which include life science and discovery and development solutions. Sweeney succeeds Jon DiVincenzo.
“John’s experience, leadership and keen understanding of the life science markets will add significant value to the leadership team and our organization,” said Robert Yates, president of EMD Millipore. “His demonstrated success and expertise will offer new insights and perspectives for continued growth and opportunity within the Bioscience business.”
Sweeney joined Millipore Corporation in 2003 in strategy and corporate development, and has held oppositions of increasing responsibility include vice president of strategy and marketing services. He holds a bachelors in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
