Judges For BioScapes Competition Announced

By Drug Discovery Trends Editor | September 22, 2009

The judges for the sixth annual BioScapes International Digital Imaging Competition have been announced by Olympus. This year’s distinguished judges will gather in October to appraise more than a thousand life science images and movies submitted from around the world, honoring the most exceptional and significant with prizes and worldwide publicity. The 2009 BioScapes Competition closes for entries on September 30.

This year’s judging panel includes four individuals renowned for their knowledge of microscope-based imaging.  They are Thomas Deerinck, National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research, University of California, San Diego; Kenneth N. Fish, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh; Douglas Murphy, Ph.D., Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Janelia Farms Research Campus, Virginia; and Julie Theriot, Ph.D., Stanford University School of Medicine in California.

The Olympus BioScapes International Digital Imaging Competition, widely recognized as the world’s leading international life science light microscopy photo forum, pays tribute to the amazing stories being told through the images and movies captured in today’s laboratories, and on the remarkable confluence of science and art.  The Competition carries a top prize valued at $5,000. Nine other submissions win prizes, and honorable mentions also are awarded.  Each entrant can submit up to five still images, image sequences, or movies. Any magnification and brand of compound light microscope can be used; judges are given no equipment/brand information when judging. Winners will be notified in October, and publicly announced in November.
