NEW YORK (AP) – AstraZeneca PLC said that it is now selling the new blood pressure medication Dutoprol, and the British drugmaker said it plans to ship the drug directly to patients.
Dutoprol is a once-per-day treatment for hypertension. It combines the active ingredient in AstraZeneca’s drug Toprol with a low-dose diuretic. AstraZeneca said patients with a prescription will be able to order the drug and have it delivered to their homes. The company said a 90-day prescription will cost $18.33 a month whether or not patients have insurance, and shipping and handling will be free. Dutoprol will also be available in retail pharmacies.
AstraZeneca said the wholesale price of Dutoprol is similar to generic versions of Toprol XL.
