Roche has long been one of the top pharmaceutical companies, but its standing has slipped during the pandemic. Its performance, however, was strong in 2021, with group sales up 9% despite erosion from COVID-19 and biosimilar competition. Last year, its pharma division brought in 45.0 CHF in revenue compared to 44.5 CHF in 2020. In 2021, the company launched 16 Phase 3 trials. It has 14 new molecular entities in pivotal trials. The company is working on combining AI and digital pathology, partnering with Bristol Myers Squibb in that effort. —BB
