Paris-based Sanofi is one of the world's top vaccine companies. Sanofi's therapeutic focus area, however, is broad, also extending to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, central nervous system disorders, internal medicine, oncology and thrombosis. Sanofi along with GlaxoSmithKline joined the U.S. government's Operation Warp Speed program in 2020 to jointly provide 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses. In December, however, the companies announced a delay for their adjuvanted recombinant protein-based COVID-19 vaccine after the vaccine candidate failed to demonstrate an adequate immune response in older adults in a Phase 1/2 trial. In February, Sanofi and GSK announced the launch of a new Phase 2 study with a revised antigen formulation. In April, Sanofi agreed to help Moderna with the manufacturing of its mRNA-1273 vaccine. –BB
