Bayer's Pharmaceuticals Division in 2020 went shopping, concluding more than 25 collaboration agreements and acquisitions. Bayer officials saw the purchase of Asklepios BioPharmaceutical (AskBio) in 2020 and BlueRock Therapeutics in 2019 as giving the company a strong position in the fast-growing field of cell and gene therapies. The company estimates the market for cell and gene therapies could grow to more than €25 billion ($28.5 billion) by 2025, according to its 2020 annual report. Bayer already has eight late-stage cell and gene therapies in clinical development, addressing everything from Pompe disease to hemophilia A to heart failure. Bayer also has two different clinical projects investigating new therapeutic approaches to Parkinson's.
